John Schwarz Studio offers full-service architecture and design, spanning residential and retail interiors, renovations, furniture, and objects. Rooted in dialogue with clients, the studio seeks a balance between functionality and beauty, where each project becomes a reflection of personal culture and lived experience.
John’s sensibility is shaped by great masters: Donald Judd’s conviction that art and its experience should remain in constant conversation; Peter Zumthor’s mastery of atmosphere and materiality; Carlo Scarpa’s precision in craft; and Luis Barragán’s sensitivity to color. These influences form the foundation of a practice devoted to creating spaces that are both aesthetic and experiential.
John’s vision and ambition led him to New York from Paris originally and worked under architect Lise Anne Couture, and Hani Rashid at Asymptote Architecture. While there, he was working on several projects with clients including, IWC Schaffhausen, Leica, Audi, Birkenstcok. With his sensitivity and exacting nature, John decided to open his own studio with the goal to reintroduce aesthetics through the beauty of space nourished by his clients’ personal experiences and culture.
For John, the essence of architecture is about creating an aesthetic experience while affording meaningful human interaction.

John Schwarz is a New York based architectural designer. Born and raised in Paris, John is of Chinese, Russian, and French descent. The interaction between different nationalities and cultures has sharpened his eye since early chilhood; how is it reflected in design is one of the passions which fuels his work.
After graduating from the Paris Val-de-Seine school of architecture, John moved to New York where he gained experience across innovative and visionary projects that include building designs, master planning projects, art installations, as well as interiors, and design. Whether he is designing a watch for a global swiss company or a cultural arts center, John’s expertise lies in finding the right balance of disparate parts to create a meaningful whole.
